Local Area


The nearest large town to Cuevas, which is dominated by a fine church and a ruined moorish castle on the hill. There are also plenty of shops, a brace of fine churches and museums, and even a historic bull ring.


The historic city of Granada has not only the magnificent world heritage site of the Alhambra palace, but also a fine cathedral, and beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains.


Cordoba has the unique world heritage site of the Mezquita Mosque, and a delightful whitewashed Jewish quarter full of shady courtyard bars and restaurants. There are dozens of museums, churchs and palaces to visit.


Seville's grand gothic cathedral is one of the largest in the world. Among it's other many sights, is the stunning Alcazar palace and the Plaza d'Espania. It's also great for shopping.

El Torcal

A few miles from Antequera is the bizarre rock landscape of El Torcal park. A mountain top natural park, with views for miles, and a host of flora and fauna. There are marked walks around the park to follow.

Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada mountains sit to the south of Granada, and in the winter months, skiing is available at the ski resort of Solynieve. During the summer months, the area is a mecca for walkers and mountain bikers.

Sierra Subbetica

The Sierra Subbetica park is right on the doorstep, starting at Iznajar lake, just a mile from the village. The opportunities for walking, cycling, riding and photography are almost endless. Dozens of picturesque towns and villages lie within the park.


Iznajar sits on a rock outcrop next to the lake which bears it's name. A beautiful white village, it has many bars and restaurants, and an old 16th Century church. There is also a manmade beach on the shore below the town
